Alain Barrat Laboratoire de Physique Theorique, Batiment 210, Universite de Paris-Sud, 91405 ORSAY Cedex, FRANCE Alain.Barrat@u-psud.fr Opinion formation: a statistical physicist's viewpoint In this talk, I will briefly review some models of opinion formation inspired from statistical physics. I will focus on the Naming Game model to illustrate how the structure of the interactions between agents (i.e., the social network) impacts the dynamics of the emergence of consensus, and show the importance of complex networks studies in this framework. I will then use a different example, namely the Deffuant model, to highlight the role of co-evolution phenomena, in which the interactions between agents evolve on the same timescale as their opinions. I will finally present a recent experimental framework aimed at gathering data on social networking patterns in environments such as conferences. http://www.th.u-psud.fr/page_perso/Barrat/ http://cxnets.googlepages.com/ |
