Workshop on “Incrementality in Verbal Interaction” From the 8th to the 10th of June 2009 a workshop on “Incrementality in Verbal Interaction” will take place at the ZiF, Bielefeld University. The hosting institution is the SFB 673, “Alignment in Communication”. Additional support from a DFG grant in the Emmy Noether Programme is gratefully acknowledged. The workshop will be organised by: Ruth Kempson (King’s College, London), David Schlangen (University of Potsdam), Hannes Rieser and Petra Wagner (both Bielefeld University). Incrementality has recently been a popular topic in different fields of research, especially in Experimental Psycholinguistics. In our workshop we want to bring together researchers from Computational Linguistics, Linguistics including Phonetics and Phonology, various branches of AI and Psycholinguistics who have been working on the processing of increments of information. The idea of the workshop is to get an overview of how incrementality is researched on in these different fields and to provide opportunities for discussion and further cooperation. Incrementality is also one of the central problems posed by the empirical data of the SFB. The workshop is open for SFB- and CITEC-members. We plan to publish reviewed workshop contributions in a special issue of the new journal “Dialogue and Discourse” (http://www.dialogue-and-discourse.org).
